Eleanor Earl will share her 'engineering passion' at a special celebratory dinner to honour Sydney Harbour Bridge's Chief Engineer Dr John Bradfield (1867-1943) on Saturday 19 March at The Wyatt Cafe, 77 Werona Avenue, Gordon 6pm. The dinner marks the 90 years since John Bradfield's Sydney Harbour Bridge first opened on 19 March, 1932. Dr Bradfield lived in Gordon and when he died in 1943 locals constructed a memorial garden, opposite his home, to "perpetuate" his memory. Eleanor Earl is a recipient of a UK Engineering Council award for the best new female Chartered Engineer in 2021. She is currently completing her PhD at the University of NSW. "I am delighted that Eleanor is our guest speaker to honour Dr Bradfield's vision," said Janine Kitson, Independent candidate for the federal seat of Bradfield. "Eleanor's work is more important than ever as we search for innovative solutions in dealing with desperately dangerous climate-fuelled disasters such as those we have seen recently across NSW and Queensland. "I think that Dr Bradfield would have been delighted to know that Eleanor is using her 'engineering passion' to problem solve for a better future. "But we also need bold national leadership in tackling climate change and that's why I am standing as a candidate in the Bradfield electorate - to ensure Bradfield does better on climate action” concluded Janine Kitson. Prior to the dinner there will be a 'cutting the ribbon' ceremony at 5pm at the Tennis Pavilion in the Gordon Recreation Grounds, Rosedale Road or Werona Avenue, a short walk from Gordon Railway Station.
